This is my first 2009 ten dollar wine review. I took advantage of the holiday season to resume my reviews of pricier French and German wines. I have been drinking Canadian wine for decades and it
has been getting better over the years. But I have never reviewed a Canadian wine until now. Even if the wine proves to be a disaster, I'll be reviewing more. But I can't promise you when.
In small towns all across America after WW II children shared bedrooms with siblings. Whole families shared one bathroom. Some families had a car. If dad drove off in it every morning he would take mom and the family to the stores on Saturday. In northern towns where there were commuter trains into the city, women, still in their robes and slippers, took husbands to the station to catch the 6:45. Dads on trains and buses had time for the paper and easy beef stew even read books.
Din Tai Fong is a restaurant simple beef stew chain known for their xiao long bao or mini steamed pork soup dumplings. Din Tai Fong is all over the world, I know of two in Taiwan, one in California, a few in Japan and Mainland China and of course, one special one in Hong Kong.
Kids rode the school bus; it was not derisively called "the big cheese". Many communities didn't have the money for luxuries like buses so children walked to school, even in bone chilling cold. If one could clamber aboard a warm bus filled with your friends - what a treat. The thought of hitting another child or not obeying the driver never occurred to anyone. Your dad would "ground you for life" or possibly "kill you".
Sensational winter table wine from the Piedmont region of Italy. Delightfully aromatic, with a rich, earthy flavor, Barolo makes a fantastic addition on a cold, winter's day. Rich and concentrated. Perfect with stew. Stands up and stands tall to intensely flavored dishes. A perfect red to take the chill off your winter. Find out why Barolo is called Italy's "King of Wines" on your next, cold, winter's day.
The Sangiovese red grape got its name from "sanguis Jovis" or "blood of Jupiter." Dating to pre-Roman times, Sangiovese is one of the two predominant red grapes in Italy, where it is extensively planted, mostly in the central and southern regions. Sangiovese is believed to have originated in Tuscany, where it dominates the landscape to this day. Serving wine and cheese before the meal? Check out Brunello di Montalcino. A perfect accompaniment for your winter buffet. Holds up and pairs nicely with heavier finger food as well. A perfect red wine for a cold, winter's day.
Nine 75 is a great place for lunch. You will find some of the same items that are on the dinner menu and some lunch only items like the nine 75 hamburger for $8.00, whisky beef in slow cooker for $8.00 and for desert, the flourless chocolate cake for $8.00.
You can also blend leftover coffee with ice and a little milk and make a delicious java shake. If you like plain iced coffee, freeze leftover coffee in ice cube trays and use these coffee cubes instead of regular ice cubes so you don't water down your coffee as they melt.
